Summer is on its way and we will be switching to 7 day a week operation from April 1st. This means that instructional flights can be booked for every day of the week (see the Members page on the website) and, of course, that winching and aerotow are also available every day.
This year’s summer programme sees the usual favourites back by popular demand.
The main event will be the 2017 Cloud Rally running from August 5th to 13th. As before the format is designed to cater for both the less experienced or less bold pilots through to hot shot “Regionals flyers”. Most importantly it’s a fun event. Full details will be on the Competition page of the website in due course.
The Inter-Club League is a friendly competition between a number of local clubs spread over a number of weekends during the summer. It’s a great way to try out competition flying and a great way to do more cross country flying and experience other sites and new territory. This year the Gransden leg will be held on June 10th/11th and we will also be hosting the final on September 2nd/3rd (though this doesn’t guarantee us a place in the final). Further details will be posted on the website shortly. Anyone interested in joining in should contact Chris Lewis (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The flexible cross country training whereby members can book weekday cross country training flights with Andy Beatty and Robert Theil will continue this year. This is an opportunity for early x-country pilots to see what it’s all about, and to practice the various skills needed. Details of how this scheme operates can be found in the separate News item “Flexible cross-country training 2017”.
In addition, there will be the usual Tuesday and Thursday evening flying sessions. These are mainly aimed at pre-solo and early solo pilots who wish to continue their training on a regular basis in the normally calm conditions of a summer’s evening. This year the Tuesday session starts on April 18th and the Thursday session starts on April 20th, finishing on September 5th and 7th respectively. If you’d like to join in, come along at 6pm. If you’d like more to know contact: Andrew Watson (email@example.com) re Tuesdays or Colin Cownden (firstname.lastname@example.org) re Thursdays.
For those of you without access to your own glider the club Single Seater Scheme will again be up and running this summer. This provides access to three high performance single seat gliders – a Pegase, a Discus, and an ASW24. Details of charges and how to buy “shares” in the scheme will be given on the website news page.
On top of all this there are club expeditions this spring. For further information see the separate News item “Spring club expeditions”.
