Description

Who is the course for?

  • Pilots who would like to take up passengers on an introductory flight
  • Taking up passengers is fun and you will meet people from all walks of life, some of them will hopefully join the club
  • Minimum requirements are:-
    • Approval from the CFI or DCFI before putting yourself forwards for this course
    • 50 hours PIC after issue of either cross-country endorsement or SPL

Course objectives

  • Learn to fly from the back seat of a two seater glider
  • Achieve Introductory Flight Pilot standard (subject to CFI acceptance check)

Course content

  • Preparation work required to become an IFP
    • Further information on what is required can be found here
  • Briefings on a wide variety of flying topics, including:-
    • safe flying from the back seat,
    • caring for your passenger,
    • how to fly safely while having fun,
    • when not to fly,
    • limitations
  • Minimum of 8 aerotows
  • 1 hour in the motor glider
  • 3 hours in Mintel Simulator

Course duration

  • Typically 4-6 days

  • Members of Cambridge Gliding Centre: £500*
  • Members of other BGA Clubs: £615*, including daily membership

*  When more flights are required to achieve the necessary level of proficiency, then the additional launches and hours are charged at normal members’ rates discounted by 10%
