Achievements on almost the shortest day of the year

Saturday was a good day for us (despite bands of rain afflicting the west side of the country for the past few weeks, we’ve remained relatively dry). It was filled with achievements, despite it being one of the shortest days:

  • Olivia converted to one of our high-performance single-seater gliders, the Pegase
  • Janine added aerotow rating to her Sailplane Pilots’ License (that is, being towed up behind a plane rather than winch launch)
  • Till completed the last items on his training syllabus, making him ready for the Sailplane Pilots’ License skills test (more on that in a future post)
  • We had two visitors who each flew for the first time, Jess and Paul. Both were naturals and had lovely long flights from high aerotows. We even found a few mini-sort-of-thermally bumps on one of the flights.
  • A new nember of Cambridge University Gliding Club, Hashem, also flew for the first time (two flights – one aerotow, one winch)
  • Ludo the dog visited the airfield and greatly enjoyed the smells. He’s not yet solo though, hence the lead.
