The forecast for the Little Gransden airshow on Sunday 24th Aug was good. We helped get the tug and Junior VB out of the hanger and launched early to allow Bruce to be towed into air by George Knight and land at the Little Gransden airfield before lots of the day’s aircraft started to fly in.
Once it had landed the Glider was moved into it position by the very helpful ground staff and then our team of CGC volunteers put up the gazebo and display boards & fenced the glider off. Then with the CGC leaflets in hand we eagerly spoke to the growing numbers of people at the show.
The show started just after lunch not with a diamond shock-waved reheat and high-speed fly past by a RAF front-line fighter but with a more genteel parachute display.
What then followed was a display of truly beautiful aircraft echoing the classic cars on display. I had forgotten how much I like wings and wheels displays.
Lots of bi-planes including a 9 ship formation of DH tiger moths and a more modern pits special with additional jet engines!
There were some beautiful interwar years aircraft such as the spartan executives duo and also various WW2 war birds including my own favourite a very rare the Douglas A26 invader.
Lots of aerobatics were on display including Mark Jefferies and the global stars team in their Extra 330SCs.
Once it was all over we called for Rob Bryce-Smith to come and land between the departing display aircraft and tow the Junior the short distance back to our airfield into a beautiful blue sky.
The forecaster had got it right.
