Winter midweek flying arrangements

Dear Members,

This year’s 7 days a week flying operations will come to an end on Sunday September the 29th.

Weekend flying will continue as usual, and 2-seater training at weekends can still be booked using the usual two-seater booking system, available at: https://members.camgliding.uk/ops/twoseatbookings.aspx .

Once again, we will be reverting to volunteer based weekday operations over the winter.

We expect the weekday CGC club member flying to take place weekly on Fridays, but this may vary due to the weather and airfield conditions.

CUGC will be arranging flying days (mostly on Mondays) over the winter with volunteer instructors and winch drivers. CGC members are generally welcome to participate, but please liaise with CUGC if you intend to do so.

We also expect that there will once again be flying by aerotow for City University on certain midweek days (weather permitting). We are waiting for confirmation of their requirements for this year.

In the absence of midweek bookable flying once again there will be a WhatsApp group linking:

  • All those who are interested in flying midweek, in single seaters or two seaters
  • The instructors and tug pilots who are running the City University flying operation,
  • Instructors who may be able to volunteer to boost our capacity to train club members,
  • Any winch drivers who may be able to come out to drive the winch when there are people who want to fly, and instructors able to fly them.

If you don’t already have the WhatsApp app on your smartphone, please click on the link below to view instructions on how to install WhatsApp:-

Once you have WhatsApp installed, please click on the link below to join the WhatsApp group.

We hope that people will use the WhatsApp group actively to:

  • share which days we hope to be flying
  • share when club members would like to come out to fly
  • see who may be available to instruct, drive winches or fly tugs

We are hoping that by taking this approach we will maximise the use of the limited resources available and once again create a dynamic community of people wanting to fly and enjoy each other’s company at the club over the winter.

Many thanks to the professional instructing team of David Williams, Andy Beatty, Mark Lawrence-Jones, and Steve Phillips for their work over the past few months and for giving so much support and guidance to our club members and visitors.  Thanks also to the midweek winching, aerotowing and launch point management team, and especially Chris Barrott who now is off to fly airliners.

Please let me know if you have any questions on this.
